A recent survey commissioned by Americans for the Arts found that as many as two-thirds of artists in the United States are without income due to the pandemic, making it one of the hardest-hit professions in the country. The Donny Wiley Memorial Fund at North Texas Community Foundation joined the Fine Line Group, Alice L. Walton Foundation and Kit and Charlie Moncrief in supporting the New Normal — a first of its kind grant initiative helping Fort Worth artists get back to work and support community healing from the COVID-19 crisis
The project challenges visual artists to create works that reflect their experience living through the pandemic as members of the Fort Worth area community. Through a competitive grant process, reviewed by representatives from the Kimbell Art Museum, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the Amon Carter Museum of American Art and the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, selected artists receive grants of $2,000 or $5,000 to fund COVID-19 inspired work.
“The Donny Wiley Memorial Fund at North Texas Community Foundation supports women artists in Fort Worth. THE NEW NORMAL fulfills Donny’s legacy by providing local artists the resources they need respond to this unprecedented disaster…and thereby help our community process, understand and heal from the experience.” said Rose Bradshaw, president/CEO of North Texas Community Foundation.
