How Local Reporting Strengthens Nonprofits
Recognizing the critical role journalism plays in strengthening communities, North Texas Community Foundation made a strategic investment in 2025 to fund a full-time reporter at the Fort Worth Report dedicated exclusively to covering nonprofit organizations and community impact.
Nonprofits across North Texas are doing vital work every day, yet many lack the capacity to consistently tell their stories or broadly share information about the services they provide and the needs they address. Dedicated reporting helps close that gap by bringing visibility to nonprofit efforts, elevating community challenges, and ensuring timely, accurate information reaches residents, funders, and community leaders alike.
This work also reflects NTCF’s broader commitment to capacity building by supporting nonprofits with the tools, visibility, and infrastructure they need to be more effective. Rather than strengthening a single organization, the investment bolsters the nonprofit sector as a whole, reinforcing the ecosystem that allows mission-driven work to thrive.
By investing in local journalism, NTCF is helping ensure that nonprofit stories are told, community needs are visible, and residents are better connected to the resources that support a stronger, more informed North Texas.
“The nonprofit sector shapes our community in powerful ways, and the nonprofit reporter will bring greater insight and visibility to that work.” – Wes Turner, Co-Chair, Fort Worth Report Board
