Access to healthy food is essential to well-being, dignity, and independence. A Central Arlington nonprofit, Water From The Rock is addressing food insecurity by ensuring nutritious food reaches residents facing barriers to accessing traditional food pantries.
With support from the 2025 BEACON grant cycle, Water From The Rock is expanding its food assistance efforts to deliver groceries directly to seniors and individuals with disabilities who are unable to visit the organization’s drive-through pantry. The grant also supports the purchase of fresh produce and the introduction of prepared meals for individuals who are chronically ill or struggle with meal preparation, helping ensure food meets both nutritional and dietary needs.
This initiative was shaped by listening to the community. As demand grew, staff heard from residents who lacked transportation or faced unsafe conditions traveling to and from the pantry. These challenges highlighted the need for a delivery-based approach that prioritizes safety, dignity, and equitable access to food.
The project is already underway, with groceries being delivered to 24 seniors and homebound residents in Central Arlington. Additional funding has supported early planning and capacity-building efforts, including identifying residents in need of delivery services, increasing access to fresh food, and exploring healthy prepared meal options.
As the program continues to grow, Water From The Rock anticipates improved food security, better health outcomes, and reduced isolation for individuals who are chronically ill or homebound. With support from the BEACON grant, the organization is expanding its reach, improving the quality of food offered, and removing barriers to access, helping build a healthier, more resilient community.
