Thanks to NTCF fundholders John Wells and Shay McCulloch-Wells, the sound of music is coming alive for students across North Texas. Their support of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra’s Adventures in Music program turns classrooms and concert halls into spaces where creativity, curiosity, and joy take center stage.
Since 1912, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra has been a cultural touchstone of the city. In addition to its regular season of exhilarating performances, the FWSO also provides robust music education through its Adventures in Music Program (AIM).
Reaching over 20,000 students in North Texas each year, AIM serves grades K-12 with innovative and engaging music education in the classroom, at Bass Performance Hall, and other local venues. These programs are designed to supplement the existing Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills curriculum put in place by the State Board of Education, and the majority of students who participate come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds where access to orchestral music and education may be limited.
Whether students are learning basic musical concepts like rhythm and dynamics, receiving instruction in voice and the recorder, or performing alongside Symphony musicians, the experience children have within the AIM program extends beyond teaching musical skills; it enhances leadership abilities, encourages creative expression, and fosters personal growth.
The generosity of John Wells and Shay McCulloch-Wells makes the magic of Adventures in Music possible. Their support ensures the power of symphonic music is brought into children’s lives, nurturing the future musicians, leaders, and arts advocates of tomorrow.
